Old Negative Google Review Assistance
A review from years ago can still be one of the first things a new customer reads, especially if it is long, detailed or has been marked helpful. Many businesses assume old reviews can't be challenged. Google's policies have no expiry date, so an old review that breaches a policy can still be reported. Evelon Digital assesses older reviews, meaning those posted 28 days ago or more, on the same basis as new ones.

Why old reviews still matter
Google sorts reviews by relevance as well as date, and a long negative review can stay near the top for years. Older reviews also count towards your overall rating. If the business has changed owners, rebranded or moved since the review, it may now describe something that no longer exists.
Common situations
- A review from before a change of ownership describing a previous operator.
- A review from a dispute that was resolved long ago, with no mention of the resolution.
- A review naming a staff member who left years ago.
- Reviews from a period when the business was targeted by a competitor or review bombing.
- A review describing services, products or premises that no longer exist.
Possible policy concerns
The age of a review isn't a policy breach. Old reviews are assessed on their content: fake engagement, conflict of interest, harassment, personal information or off-topic content. A review about a previous owner may be relevant to whether it reflects the current business.
Evidence that may be useful
- Records of ownership changes or rebranding, with dates.
- Archived booking or invoice data for the period.
- Correspondence showing a dispute was resolved.
- Screenshots of the review's position on your profile.
How we handle old reviews
We check whether the content breaches a policy now, regardless of age. Where it doesn't, we often recommend a short, updated public reply explaining what has changed. A thoughtful reply to an old review tells readers the business is listening.
New compared with older reviews
Reviews under 28 days old and reviews 28 days old or more are both accepted. The enquiry form asks you to select the age of each review, because evidence gathering differs, and the private pricing email lists both.
Several old reviews
If you have a backlog of old negative reviews, tell us how many there are. We will assess which, if any, may breach a policy, and which are better addressed with replies.
Other negative Google reviews we handle
Each review is assessed on its own content and evidence. A possible policy breach does not guarantee removal — Google makes the final decision.
- Fake and fabricated reviews
Reviews describing a visit, purchase or job that never happened.
- Unfair one-star reviews
Low ratings with no text, or a rating that doesn't match the experience described.

- Former employee and contractor reviews
Reviews about employment, pay or a contract dispute rather than a customer experience.
- Conflict of interest reviews
Reviews from people with a personal or commercial stake in harming the business.
- Reviews from unidentified customers
Reviewers you cannot match to any booking, invoice or record.
- Abusive or threatening reviews
Harassment, slurs, threats or personal attacks on named staff.

Clusters of similar reviews posted in a short window, often from new accounts.
- Off-topic reviews
Commentary about politics, news, another business or anything but the experience.
- Reviews posted against the wrong business
Mistaken identity between similarly named or neighbouring businesses.
- Recently posted negative reviews
